For a while I lived in Winter Park Colorado. It's a small but beautiful ski town about a half hour west of Denver. Real estate is still reasonable there but when I left it was definetely up and coming. This means buy property there today, and appreciation will likely soar over the next 10-15 years. Like I said, its small town living, but you're only half hour away from big cities like Denver and Colorado Springs. If being surrounded by pine trees and tall mountains is what you're looking for, definetely check this town out. When people say Colorado is a beautiful country, they had places like this in mind.

nothing much. just let her know that while you understand that she's the adult and is probably making the decision she thinks is best for everyone, you would appreciate it if she would listen to why you want to stay where you are and that you are really upset about this move.
you just have to be respectful or she won't listen at all. and if it doesn't work, i've heard colorado is really nice and moving is kinda fun and u can completly start over and be a diff. person if u want to.
good luck, and im sure ur mum is only trying to do the best thing.

Comment on I am thinking of moving to Golden, Colorado in a few years, does anyone have an opinion about it? by bd

Golden, Colorado is an especially beautiful town. Just west of Denver, Golden lies at the base of the foothills and has a quaint, yet popular, downtown that caters to both college students and those with more refined taste.

It is not what we consider a mountain town, and it is by no means secluded, but that means that it has access to Denver (less than 1/2 hour away) without being a busy big city or a sprawling suburban "town" like Highlands Ranch just south of Denver.

There is not a lot of new construction to restrain growth in this community and it is a desirable place to live... both of these factors make it more expensive than surrounding areas, but if Golden is where you would like to live then you'll need to pay the premium.

There is a mix of old and new neighborhoods in Golden. You may, however, want to hang out at your potential residence for a while during different times of day to check for an unpleasant... or at least unfamiliar odor. Coors brewery is right in town and this factory does not have the most pleasing smell. I enjoy rock climbing on North Table Mountain at the edge of town (also known locally as the Golden Cliffs) and the smell there can be quite powerful and it reminds me nothing of beer.

There are so many opportunities around Golden for recreation that it would be difficult to explore them all, but if you enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, hang gliding, hunting, skiing, gambling, shopping, eating, working out, fly fishing, Frisbee throwing, or other such activities you are in a great spot. If you love the Golden area, but can not afford to live directly in town there are other spots not far to the north and south that can offer more affordable options and only 10-15 minutes from Downtown Golden.

We chose to live in Lakewood which puts us somewhat between Denver and Golden with good access to both.

23 & from Wis? well its pretty hard to get any better than Boulder... its got the scenery & outdoors of Wis only better & enough to do in nature & city to satisfy any 23 year old... only drawbacks are that it does have a winter much like you already see in Wis, only with skiing nearby (yay!) & that the housing is expensive... i came from northeast Iowa & decided on further south in Pueblo area, but that is more desert & a far cry from the greenry of Iowa & Wisconsin... My reasons for this part of Colorado was looking for 100K range population city, cheap housing (very similar to Iowa), low crime rate (Co Springs is bad & so is Denver - check FBI website for stats), & no need for a snowblower... We get snow but always gone in 24-48 hours & all winter am 30 minutes from snow in Mountains... If you got the $$ & dont mind the snow then Boulder is awesome... probably one of the top 10 in USA in my opinion...

Do a search on rent.com for properties around Fort Carson. You'll find a ton of apartments broken down by distance from Ft. Carson. AVOID zip codes 80909 and 80910 as they are less than fantastic neighborhoods. Griffis Blessing manages a ton of properties in Colorado Springs and they really take care of their residents so if you can rent one of their apartments you won't be disappointed.

Close by apartments that come to mind are Colony Hill Apartments 2bedroom/1 bath; 1000 sq. ft./ under $600. Pool and playground.

Hunter's Meadow.2/1; 730 sq. ft. Under $600; pool and playground.

Skyway Village. 2bed/2 bath: 920 sq. ft; under $600; pool, no playground but close to Bear Creek Park.

I've lived in Colorado Springs for over 15 years and currently live close enough to Ft. Carson to hear their artillery training so feel free to e-mail me with any questions about the area, certain neighborhoods, schools, parks, etc.
